Question by ireland383: Can you use a regular digital thermometer that has tenths on it to chart basal body temperature?
any tips on conceiving would be helpful.

Yes you can. There are other, more accurate thermometers, but your current one should work for you. Taking Control Of Your Fertility is a great resource for trying to conceive (or not when you don’t want to conceive).

you can use a digital but it should say some where it takes basal temps. That 4/10 degrees is really important to determine ovulation and you need a digital that takes basal. You can get them at Walmart.

Yes,I used a normal thermometer and a medical one and they both read the same when I stuck them into warm water. But try not to get the medical one too wet.

First problem is that oral thermometers really only accurately measure in a somewhat narrow range. While room temperature can be within this range (90’s), it’s typically more like 65-75, which is not what an oral thermometer is best able to measure.
Also, an oral thermometer requires contact with a medium other than just air. Stick it in a glass of water, say, and you’ll find it does a better job.
