Let me go look at mine. It says William Sonoma. Let me look for it for you.

(the ones with the wire braided cords)

It’s not exactly what I have, but I like the wired probe that you can use in your oven or on the grill. When the probe isn’t plugged in, it doubles as a timer. Mine has preset temps for any kind of meat cuts and can also temp your fridge to make sure it’s not too warm or too cold.

Question by goodtimes_court: Thermometer broke–what’s the best alternate for testing food temperature?
My prepping thermometer broke and temperature is essential to a recipe I’m working on. What would be a suitable alternative for testing food temp? Do not own medical thermometer. Better, what should I expect 107 degrees (celcius) to feel like against the skin?
That’s kind of the point–I need one, like…now. I’m trying to find something that I could possibly substitute for the sake of completing the recipe.

Question by Di☆na: is a mercury thermometer safe in the fridge? will it contaminate any food in it?
I wanted to know the exact temperature in my fridge, but didn’t have a cooking thermometer (or whatever thermometer ur suppose to use). So I found one that was mercury and stuck it in my fridge for no more than 10 minutes. Now im beginning to worry if it contaminated any of the food in the frigde in that short period of time..

mercury can only contaminate if it is exposed, as in the thermometer broke. Remember, the new light bulbs all the the enegy savers are promoting are mercury based and dangerous, only if broken.

          Go with “Polder”.
they make the best and they make about 50 different models.
          Here’s a few.

Beleive it or not Knight, I like the simple one with the long stem( I think you said you don’t like that one).
But you dont have to leave it in the meat.
You just check the internal temp when the time is getting close.
For instance, your cooking a 3 lb chicken and that should cook for lets say 1 1/2 hours. So you stick it in the widest part ( deep into the breast) to see if it reached an internal temp165F but you do it 15 minutes before the 1 1/2 hours to see how close you are to that temp.
So if it reads 160, you know you need that extra 15 minutes.
You get use to them after a few uses.
All our chefs use them and they’re not expensive.
We sell tons of them in our store.
