I think a basal thermometer has (example: 97.50) and a digital only has (example: 97.5)…there is really nothing different! Just as long as it shows .0-.9, it shouldn’t matter!!! Good luck TTC…

The difference is in the range.
Body temperature is 36.5 degrees Celsius. Hence the thermometer has the range from 32 to 40 degrees. it is made of mercury.
Air temperature can be from -10 to 50 degrees Celsius. Hence it has a range of -20 to 60 degrees. It is made of electronic sensors.

Question by Winter_Angel98: Whats the difference between a regular thermometer to a basel one?
I was taking my tempature this week and writing it down to help track ovultion, but I just read that I needed a basel theromometer. What is the difference beween these? thanks
Best answer:
Answer by Kay
a basal thermometer is an ultra sensitive thermometer that tracks your body’s minutest temperature shift or basal temperature. basal temperature is the normal body temperature of a healthy person immediately upon awakening in the morning. this temperature normally rises after ovulation due to hormonal changes. thus, a temperature increase near the middle of your menstrual cycle can indicate ovulation has occurred.
digital basal thermometers are best.
basal thermometers measure in smaller increments than a regular thermometer, which gives you a more precise reading. the basal thermometer also gets a faster reading, which also makes it more accurate.

Question by Alexander: What is the difference between ordinary thermometer and maximum thermometer?
Best answer:
Answer by to_700million_idiots
I have to assume you mean a max min thermometer
a normal thermometer has a column of mercury (or some other fluid) the level of which you use to read the temperature
A max min thermometer has metal indicators that sit on top of the meniscus but get left behind when the mercury falls
or rises
One resets them with a magnet
