Question by hereceivedacall: Anyone have the best chocolate candy recipe in the world that can be made without a candy thermometer?
Best answer:
Answer by peanutflutter
Truffles…the easiest and most delicious chocolate candy:
Bring 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream to a simmer. Pour it over a pound of chopped chocolate and stir until the chocolate is completely melted. Cover the mixture and let it cool at room temp. for a few hours (or in the fridge for about 30 min). When the mixture stiffens, scoop out bite-size pieces with a spoon or mini ice cream scoop and roll them into balls. Then roll the balls in chopped nuts, cocoa powder, or confectioner’s sugar.
This is the basic recipe, but you can flavor it a lot of ways by adding flavors to the hot cream (vanilla, grand marnier, liquors, almond extract, etc.).

Question by wondermermaid: What is the best basal body temp thermometer?
Is glass or digital better?
Best answer:
Answer by jilldaniel_wv
Get a digital one that is specifically for Basal Body Temping. Also, make sure it has a recall feature. If you accidentally fall back to sleep and forget to write it down the recall is a real life-saver!

Question by Angel: best time to use basal thermometer?
I am going to purchase a basal thermometer to track my ovulation. My husband and I don’t want children yet, and plan on doing it the natural way of family planning. Sources say the best time to take your temps daily are right when you wake up, the problem is I am a night shift worker so I go to work from 11pm to 7am and the I stay up all morning, and go to bed around 1 or 2 in the afternoon and wake up at 9:00pm so at what time should I take the reading so I can be as accurate as possible. Any help would be greatly appreicated.
I recently purchased a highly reccomended book called”Taking charge of your fertility” I hope this will help also.

You are suppose to take your temperature when you first wake up, while you are still lying in bed (if you get up first, your temp will change with movement). It doesn’t matter what time of day, just after you are through sleeping your 8 or so hours, reach over and pop the thermometer in!

I don’t know but if it is for fertility issues you should look up Babycomp and/or LadyComp… both expensive, but work great. They are basal thermometers with computers in them that predict your fertile times with amazing accuracy…

Question by new SA mama: The best thermometer for a nine month old?
Right now we are just using the digital one from the hospital, but it takes forever and our daughter doesn’t really enjoy having her arm held down for minutes waiting for her temp to register. What kind of thermometer is best in your experience (besides the pacifier ones, she won’t use one anymore!) Thanks!

Get the instant read ear thermometer, they use disposable cups so as not to spread any disease, and are not that expensive, One click in the ear, and it’s instant. No pain and no danger to the little one. Cheap at WalMart.

When matter is heated, the particles lose attraction, making the matter move more and more. When the alcohol is heated, it starts moving upwards because the particles have nowhere else to move.

Question by Holy Macaroni!: What do you think is the best ear thermometer for an infant?
Everything I look at seems to be a little big for a baby’s ear.. any help is appreciated.
Best answer:
Answer by gg
I asked my pediatrician this. They told me NOT TO GET ONE.
They always want you to use a rectal thermometer.
I would use the ear (we bought a braun,), and call the doc with the temp, and they would always say: “NO…we need a RECTAL temp).
The ear is better for once the baby is past about 15 months of age, but they still want a rectal reading anyway. We ended up using the ear therm on ourselves, and kept the digital one for baby’s bum.

Call in the hazmat team.
Or, pick it up carefully (wear rubber gloves), and dispose of it properly as a hazardous waste.
