Question by Luv My Lion: Is there a difference between a basal thermometer and a regular digital thermometer?
I have a simple digital thermometer and was wondering if I need to buy another to chart my temps?

Best answer:

Answer by NorthCarolinachicky
They recommend a basal thermometer because it’s more sensitive to the slightest of temp. changes. It measures to the hundreth of a degree. I tried using a regular thermometer and ended up getting a basal. I was never noticing a temp spike. You can find them at Wal mart or your local pharmacy. Good luck!

I purchased a digital basal thermometer for the purpose of tracking my ovulation date. When do I begin using the thermometer if my period began on 1/18? Thanks.
Should I start when I wake up tomorrow morning? The instructions said it’s best to chart before getting out of bed.

Question by elizabeth: What is the best brand of basal body thermometer to get?
I’m using one I got at Walgreen;s and it’s a Walgreen’s brand, but I’m not sure if it’s accurate or not. If anyone uses a BBT thermometer, which one do you use?

I used a Boots own brand one and that was just as accurate as any other. They all measure temp the same way and one is as good as the next.

Question by sadiebaby: Is there a difference bewteen a basal thermometer and a traditional thermometer?
I have purchased several digital thermometers over the years and they are always wrong. I would rather purchase a higher end hospital type or ear thermometer. Would these work the same for ovulation prediction?

No, they wouldn’t. The increments for ovulation prediction are different than for figuring out a fever.
