Question by #3 due 4/10: What is the difference between a Basal Thermometer and?
a digital? Can you give me spesifics, not “basal is better” please. Thank you. I am TTC and charting my temp

I think a basal thermometer has (example: 97.50) and a digital only has (example: 97.5)…there is really nothing different! Just as long as it shows .0-.9, it shouldn’t matter!!! Good luck TTC…

Is glass or digital better?
Best answer:
Answer by jilldaniel_wv
Get a digital one that is specifically for Basal Body Temping. Also, make sure it has a recall feature. If you accidentally fall back to sleep and forget to write it down the recall is a real life-saver!

Question by Angel: best time to use basal thermometer?
I am going to purchase a basal thermometer to track my ovulation. My husband and I don’t want children yet, and plan on doing it the natural way of family planning. Sources say the best time to take your temps daily are right when you wake up, the problem is I am a night shift worker so I go to work from 11pm to 7am and the I stay up all morning, and go to bed around 1 or 2 in the afternoon and wake up at 9:00pm so at what time should I take the reading so I can be as accurate as possible. Any help would be greatly appreicated.
I recently purchased a highly reccomended book called”Taking charge of your fertility” I hope this will help also.

You are suppose to take your temperature when you first wake up, while you are still lying in bed (if you get up first, your temp will change with movement). It doesn’t matter what time of day, just after you are through sleeping your 8 or so hours, reach over and pop the thermometer in!

Question by Rachel M: how long do you have to leave basal thermometer in when trying to get bbt?
am i doing it wrong? i leave it in for about 10 mins but it still doesn’t beep to give me the reading.
Best answer:
Answer by Sarah N
Sometimes mine doesnt beep, or i dont hear it! LOL! I’m fuzzy first thing in the morning.
A digital BBT should only take about two minutes. An old mercury kind takes about 5 minutes.
I can tell when mine is finished even if it doesnt beep because the small ‘c’ for centigrade flashes while it’s working and then stops once the reading has been got.
Ten minutes is too long to leave it in. You should probably just give up on that one and buy another, but be sure to mark it on your chart so you can account for any anomolies in your temps.
Good luck! xx

I don’t know but if it is for fertility issues you should look up Babycomp and/or LadyComp… both expensive, but work great. They are basal thermometers with computers in them that predict your fertile times with amazing accuracy…

Yes you can. There are other, more accurate thermometers, but your current one should work for you. Taking Control Of Your Fertility is a great resource for trying to conceive (or not when you don’t want to conceive).
