Question by hereceivedacall: Anyone have the best chocolate candy recipe in the world that can be made without a candy thermometer?
Best answer:
Answer by peanutflutter
Truffles…the easiest and most delicious chocolate candy:
Bring 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream to a simmer. Pour it over a pound of chopped chocolate and stir until the chocolate is completely melted. Cover the mixture and let it cool at room temp. for a few hours (or in the fridge for about 30 min). When the mixture stiffens, scoop out bite-size pieces with a spoon or mini ice cream scoop and roll them into balls. Then roll the balls in chopped nuts, cocoa powder, or confectioner’s sugar.
This is the basic recipe, but you can flavor it a lot of ways by adding flavors to the hot cream (vanilla, grand marnier, liquors, almond extract, etc.).

Question by I Might Even Be a Rock Star…: Has anyone tried the baby pacifier thermometer?
I bought a baby pacifier thermometer for my friend as one of the gifts I got her, the babyshower is this weekend. I hadn’t seen or heard of them until I ran across it at a drug store (maybe cuz i’m not a mommy yet). I thought this would be a lot easier than a rectal thermemeter for a baby. But, I’m not sure about the truth behind it’s accuracy. Of course the packaging says it’s trusted, but how well can we trust it? Any advice on wether I should give it to her or get my money back?

Answer by ♥Pamela♥
It will ONLY work if the baby is used to having a pacifier which I personally am against, but if it works for the baby’s parents, it will work.
EDIT:
I don’t understand the thumbs down I got- I mean that if the baby isn’t used to having a dummy in their mouth, (s)he won’t keep it in their mouth long enough for a temperature to be taken.

Question by Luna27: Has anyone found a reliable and relatively inexpensive thermometer for a newborn?
I can’t seem to find one that is accurate at all. I will check the baby’s temperature in his armpit and then check my own and they are way off. Sometimes it will say my temperature is 95 degrees. I need something that works. Any suggestions?

Question by Almost3: Has anyone used this digital thermometer?
I have the mobi digital ear and forehead thermometer. How do I get an accurate reading? I place it in one spot on the forehead and it says 98.8, another spot says 99.7. I try the ear it says 98.4. Is this typical with a digital? I found that if I place it on a vein the temp reads 1 degree higher…is this the reading I should use?
Thanks.

I have used it and I remember that you are supposed to start at one temple, and run it slowly across the hairline to the other temple, what will come out is a steady reading.
