I don’t have a snake, but I do have other reptiles and so I think it should be the same.
Where ever you are trying to find the temp for, you should put it right next to where you need to find the temp. If you have it farther away, it might not get as accurate of a temp.

I find the ear thermometers best – the rectal ones are hard to use with a squirming baby.
The ear ones take about 3 seconds to use, are totally painless and are pretty accurate. You can use them on a sleeping child, which is an added bonus. They are more expensive though – expect to pay about to in Canada, probably about the same or a bit cheaper in US. A big drugstore or someplace like Walmart would have them.

…this indicate about the relative rates of expansion for mercury and glass? What would happen if their expansion rates were the same?

When a container expands, the reservoir in the container expands at the same rate as the container. Thus, if there is something in a container and both expand at the same rate, they have no change – but if the contents expand faster, they will fill the container to a higher level, and if the contents expand slower, they will fill the container to a lower level (relative to the new size of the container).

ZEIST – Twintig medewerkers van Achmea controleren in juli de temperatuur in hooibergen. In de zomermaanden is de kans op hooibroei een reëel gevaar en is waakzaamheid geboden. Het broeien van vochtig, slecht geventileerd hooi kan brand tot gevolg hebben. Om dit te voorkomen bezoeken de Achmea-controleurs zo’n 4.800 agrarische bedrijven, vaak meer dan één keer. Boeren die verzekerd zijn bij Interpolis en Avéro Achmea kunnen gratis een beroep doen op één van de hooibroeicontroleurs die werken voor Achmea Agro. Vorig jaar voorkwamen zij 25 à 30 branden door tijdig ingrijpen en dat gebeurde ook de afgelopen weken alweer een aantal keer. Maar nog te vaak gaat het mis. Zo brandden recent in Almkerk, Werkendam (allebei NB) en Nieuwkoop (ZH) boerenschuren af door (vermoedelijk) hooibroei. De controleurs beschikken over geavanceerde meetapparatuur. Met een thermometer aan een vier meter lange flexibele lans bepalen zij de temperatuur in de kern van de opslag. Boven 50 graden is waakzaamheid geboden. Meet de controleur een hogere temperatuur, dan blijft hij deze volgen, zonodig met dagelijkse controles. Blijft de temperatuur oplopen, dan wordt het hooi vaak met assistentie van de brandweer uit de opslag gehaald. Preventie Hooi wordt tegenwoordig vaak in grote balen van 400-500 kilo geperst en in een schuur opgeslagen. Deze balen dienen zodanig te worden gestapeld dat de ontstane warmte weg kan. I’m 7dpo and I’m staying the night away and forgot my BBT thermometer. Will a regular digital thermometer be ok for in the morning? Will it be accurate or screw things up? Not sure how they differ…

ASSEN – De thermometer bereikte woensdag op verschillende plaatsen in Drenthe de 35 graden en veel mensen zochten daarom verkoeling in het water, maar niet iedereen had een vrije dag. Zo gingen de wegwerkzaamheden aan de snelweg A28 gewoon door. Met een wat rustiger tempo konden de wegwerkers gewoon doorwerken.
