Another Question(s) Concerning My New Ball Python…?

Question by Zeus2345: Another Question(s) Concerning My New Ball Python…?
I have a couple more questions on my new python, and everyone here was helpful on my last set of questions. Please help, I know it’s a long read but I am a first time snake owner and I want to make sure I’m caring for this little guy best as possible.

Ok, I got my snake Sunday along with a heat pad for the bottom of the tank, I didn’t purchase the heat lamp because my house never really gets too cold. But when I took him home and set up the thermometer, it was about 79-80. It was night time when I set it up so I waited till the next day to see if temp would increase during the day. Well the following day, not much of an increase in temp so I went and bought a heat lamp and a 75watt infrared bulb (which is what was suggested to me by the pet shop owner) I installed it and it raised the temp to 86-88. But since I installed, my snake doesn’t stay in his cave. He has his body in and leaves about 2 inches of his head end out. I’m wondering if maybe the lamp and the pad create too much heat in his cave? Or maybe now he likes the temp of outside his cave so he doesn’t need to be completely in there? But than I thought pythons like to hide in their caves, so I’m not really sure what to think and hope I can get some advice on this.
Also, I was advised to buy him a 10gal tank since his a juvenile, and still little. But the situation I’m having with the heat lamp is that I have his heat pad on the left side with the cave over it, I was told to have the lamp on the opposite end of the pad which is on the right side, ok I did that, but than I have read not to have the lamp over the water bowl, which is on the right side.. I’m only working with a 10gal here so I don’t have much space, is it really bad that the lamp is over the water? I have read not to do it, than I’ve also read that doing that increases humidity. Any advice?
Thanks to all for the advice. Ok, i just got home from work and came to my python relaxing on top of his cave. I checked the temp of his cave as instructed to on here. The floor temp inside the cave was 94-95. The overall temp of the tank was 83. This was all with the heat lamp on. Should I turn it off and not use it again till I can get a 20gal? Or are these temps ok? Once again, I have a 10gal for my baby python. Not too much room to distribute the heat sources around in the tank.

Hi, 1st things first I think the 10 gallon tank is to small I suggest use a 20 Gal to start off with. The snake might be a baby still but having a lamp over the water is not good it can cause algae build up and the water will evaporate quickly, also its good to have stretching room for the python when it does decide to roam around. Its a possibility that it has got a little to hot for him under his hide spot specially since your snakes tank is small and the 75 watt most likely is making him a little hotter then you think i try and keep all my snakes hide spots in a spot where it lays in the middle of the warm and cool side then again my snakes have multiple hide spots. I also own ball pythons me and my boyfriend have 4 along with many other snakes. For humidity if your worried about it instead of having the heat lamp over the water bowl mist the tank but don’t soak it, we mist the sides of the tank to sustain the right humidity level. All in all i think its better that you get at least a gallon tank that’s what i started all my ball pythons out of and they are all doing great from starting out in one.

Also instead of having to mist your tank you can still use the water bowl for a humidity source but don’t put it directly under the lamp. I hope i helped good luck with your snake.

Well, I know the answers, but for the sake of legal action, I don’t think it’s legal for me to give you answers to a test! You can google a lot of these, and use some common sense.

For example, if you have a question that said “If a blue house was blue, the pink house was pink, the white house was white, what color was the greenhouse?”

a) Green
b) Blue
c) Glass, although it’s not a color
d) Yellow

The answer would be c! Greenhouse doesn’t have a space, therefore it’s talking about plants. If I said “green house” then the answer would be green.
