If the mercury is cleaned up properly and not agitated, will it vaporize quickly enough to create a health hazard in a large room? Additionally, how quickly does mercury vaporize?

Answer by Chad O Mercury will not vaporize at room temperature. It’s boiling point is 629.88 K. Trust me, I was playing with this shiny spot in my lab drawer last week and then I realized it was mercury. I’m not exactly the cautious type. It had to be in there for a couple weeks, because my thermometer has never broken.
Question by charles: How do I calibrate a Taylor 9942 thermometer?
It comes with a user manual, but I’ve somehow lost that. When I stick it in boiling water, it reads 290 degrees F, so I believe I need to recalibrate it.

Answer by Vicky Charting BBTs will give you a clear pattern of ovulation. OPKs are good for some women but not for others. In short, you should probably use both AND chart cervical mucus too, to ensure that you can see a clear ovulatory pattern. remember that OPKs and CM can tell you when ovulation is likely to happen in the near future, while BBTs can only tell you that you’ve already ovulated (which, if you’ve got irregular cycles, can be more depressing that helpful!) But if there’s any doubt that you ARE ovulating, then BBTs are the only real way to know for sure. To get started with charting BBTs go to http://www.fertilityfriend.com. It’s free and they’ll send you daily tutorials to get you started and give clear guidelines about how to go about it. You can use a normal thermometer if you have one, but make sure it’s digital.

I bought a turkey, thinking I was so brave to try cooking one for the first time. It is 8kg. I didn’t buy a thermometer though, and reading several online sites, it seems I should have. Can I get by without one though? It is suppose to snow some more and I’m already stuck from the last one…

Answer by Jane The juices should run clear from the bird and you should be able to move the leg and thigh easily. Check for a pop up button in the bird, many come with them (although they aren’t perfect)
