German People out there?

Question by Maggie: German People out there?
Please Help Me! I need the following translated into German.

(1) This is the Pork roast. It had to cook to 170 degrees.

(2)This is my fruit salad. The lettuce is just for decoration.

(3)This is me cutting up my melon. It was for the fruit salad.

(4)This is the table set with all the food. Lets eat!

(5)This is the bundt cake. It was so sweet it didn’t need any frosting.

(6)This is the roast once it was on the table. The meat thermometer split it in half!

(7)This is the Spetzle. There were a few too many to fit in the bowl!

(8)A picture of Dierbergs. This is the place I shopped for all the food.

Thanks alot, this is for a German food project. I kinda waited till the last minute and forgot my book at school, so any translations would be appreciated!

Question by tiptoesan: Pork roast/slow cooker…how long per pound?
I have a 7.7 lb. pork butt that I want to cook in my slow cooker but can’t find a per pound time to go by when cooking it. My meat thermometer has taken a dive and I can’t trust what it says as far as internal temp goes. Would it hurt to just leave the roast on low overnight? It’s been on for 9 hours. I’m fairly sure it’s done but can’t be sure since I don’t have any reference to go by on cook times. Can I overcook it by leaving it on low for too long? I’ve heard that the worst thing that’ll happen is that the roast will just fall apart, which is fine since it’s going to be BBQ anyways.

    Answer by lilginny
I never time anything I put in a slow cooker but a sure way to know if it’s done is to cut it and if the juices are clear then it’s done or if you want to have it so tender it shreds apart just check with a fork to see.

Can you use an ear thermometer on a 2 month old?

Question by Lauren: Can you use an ear thermometer on a 2 month old?
My daughter seems very sleepy and is sweating a lot. I am not sure what the best way to take her temperature is. I have an ear thermometer and a digital one.

      Best answer:

      Answer by Ethel
The best way is to put the tip of the digital thermometer under her arm (axillary), the ear thermometer isn’t accurate for her right now since her ears are too small.

        crockpot chicken help!?

Question by only1bub: crockpot chicken help!?
I always have a hard time with my crock pot – it seems to always dry everything out. So I was supposed to put a whole chicken in the crockpot for 8 – 10 hours on low. I forgot about it, so by 10:30 I had it in the crockpot, turned it on high to get it started for 1 1/2 hours, then turned it on low. It has now been in there for 5 1/2 hours and I used a meat thermometer and avoiding the bone, it says it’s at 170 degrees already! (180 is when it’s done). Is that right? Do crockpots register temperature properly? Augh! it’s only 3:00 – NOT time for a chicken dinner!
oops – make that 4 1/2 hours. It’s only been in for 4 1/2 hours.

List looks good… we’ve been doing Turkey-day at our ranch for 20-30 for the last five years, bringing over local family: my brother & his wife, her sister and husband; and local singles & couples not known for their cooking skills. Though I DO like to assign a few of the sides and dessert to others just because it spreads the joy.

We allot roughly 0 for the food… at our local market. A quick check on the web shows that that SHOULD be about right for your list… -120.

Things I would add as appetizers / sides (our traditions)-

          - cut raw veggies (carrots, celery, brocolli, cauliflower) w/ sourcream & horseradish dip
          - Crackers and Cheese
          - small French Bread slices with a spicy-olive oil dip.

No Celery for your stuffing ??
No Sage for rubbing the turkey and adding to the stuffing ??

We do two turkeys (15 lbs)… one deep-fried EARLY in the morning, and one roasted in the oven.

When you buy your roasting pan… IF you can, spend the $$ and buy a GOOD one that will last decades !! You can use it for Roast Beef, multiple chickens, etc throughout the year !!

OH… and if you get a turkey that large – make SURE you measure your OVEN before hand and measure your turkey at the store to ENSURE the turkey will fit in the oven !! I’ve seen it TWICE where folks are either cooking their first Turkey-day, or have moved into a new house and they discover on Thanksgiving DAY that the Turkey won’t FIT !!

GOOD LUCK and GOOD EATING !!

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Old Fashioned Caramel Popcorn Balls. These are the kind of Halloween treats that were handed out when I was the age to go “trick-or-treating.” Our grandson, Carter dropped by during the popcorn ball making to show off his Halloween costume. Ingredients: 8 cups popped corn ¾ cup brown sugar, firmly packed ¾ cup white sugar ½ cup light corn syrup ½ cup water 1 teaspoon white vinegar ¼ teaspoon salt ¾ cup butter Measure 8 cups popped corn into a large bowl or pan. Sort out any un-popped corn and discard. Combine ¾ cup brown sugar, ¾ cup white sugar, ½ cup light corn syrup, ½ cup water, 1 teaspoon white vinegar, and ¾ cup butter in a 2-quart saucepan. Heat to boiling over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Cook constantly to 260 degrees on candy thermometer (or hard ball stage). Reduce heat to low; stir in ¾ cup butter until melted. Pour syrup in thin stream over popped corn, stirring until corn is well-coated. Cool slightly. Butter hands, and shape mixture into 3-inch balls and place on waxed paper. Your must squeeze the popcorn tightly into balls, otherwise the balls may have a tendency to fall apart before they dry. You may speed up the process of getting the popcorn balls to set up by placing them in the refrigerator. Store in an airtight container, or wrap individually with plastic wrap. These are delicious treats at Halloween time, but should be given cautiously to children, as they may not be used to eating popcorn

How to make sure roast chicken is done?

Question by HONEST ANSWER: How to make sure roast chicken is done?
Sorry didn’t get to buy a meat thermometer. It’s about a 6 pound fryer chicken. I started cooking breast up at about 375F for 40mins until skin was nice and golden..then turned it down to 250. I checked by the thigh and juice is clear..I just flipped it to give the back some color..sounds done?
UMMM…update… I took it out after the back was done. Let it rest and then place it on a platter. Juice came out…reddish..NOT GOOD! So I put it back in the over losely covered with foil since the outside is done …at 300F.. any other advice?

                    Is my turkey done cooking?

Question by I ♥ Guinea Pigs!: Is my turkey done cooking?
My mom cooked our turkey for 1 hour at 450, then she lowered the heat to 325 and cooked it for 4 more hours.

We have a 21 lb. turkey (yes, big!) but when we took the stuffing out the inside is dark pinkish, but my mom said that’s just the dark meat part. We put the meat thermometer in it, and it said 160 F. The little red timer on the turkey has popped up though, and the outside of the turkey is dark golden brown and dark brown on other parts.

                    Is it finished cooking?
When I said 450 and 325 I meant in Fahrenheit.
