Question by Trish JPA and Jewish Pastafarian: Does anybody know where to purchase a microwavable candy thermometer?
I need a thermometer that I can use IN the microwave. Does anybody know where I can purchase one?
Zara – Thanks, but that type thermometer can’t go IN the microwave since it’s metal. I see lots of recipes that call for the use of a “microwavable” thermometer, but no thermometers that fit the bill

Question by adkat2001: How can you figure out the temperature without a thermometer?
Lets say I want to know the temperature in my house or the temperature in my fridge.
All this without using a thermometer.
Are there any household substances which show changes at specific temperatures.
e.g. Some substance showing change at 10 degrees or 15 degrees etc.
Something to measure temp in the fridge and the freezer.
Atleast approximate it.
Maybe a list of different substances for different range of temperatures.

Question by grotereber: Is this pork roast fully cooked?
The meat still is a little pinkish. I cooked it for the recommended time (2.25 hrs for slightly more than 4 lbs) and to an internal temperature of 155. I seem to recall that this happened last time, too. Maybe my meat thermometer is off?
Best answer:
Answer by wanninonni It shouldn’t be pink but I’ve eaten pork when it was a little pink. As for me and my pork, I like it low and slow. Crock pot is the best way. 8 hours or so with a pkg of Onion Soup mix and about 1/2 cup of water….. yummmmmm

Question by Vibhav G: Should I be worried that I vacuumed a broken thermometer?
I recently broke a thermometer and I tried to vacuum it up, but the mercury wouldn’t go through the vacuum. I then did a quick google search on how to handle this and found out that you are never to vacuum mercury because it vaporizes it and releases more of the toxins into the air. Should I be worried that I tried to vacuum it? Is my kitchen a huge toxic zone now? I opened windows and let the air flow for 15 minutes but I am kind of worried now.
Best answer:
Answer by Diane B see if you have a bio hazard waste facility in your community. If you do give them a call and explain what happened. It may cost you some $$ but they may come out and check and also rid you of the mercury, as you just can’t toss it in the trash.

Question by SeaShells: How long to roast this chicken?
I have a whole chicken for Thanksgiving dinner. It’s 7.54 lbs. It’s been thawing in the refrigerator all day. I read somewhere that it’s 20 min per pound. So… would 2 and 1/2 hours be long enough? And I bought a meat thermometer. What part of the chicken do I use it on?
Oh, and at what temperature????
