Question by Ashleigh: I cooked the chicken to the right temperature, but it’s still red inside! How much longer should I cook it for?
I put a whole chicken in the over for a little over one hour. The meat thermometer read that it was the right temperature (about 190 degrees, I think). But when I took it out and started to cut it up, parts of it were still red inside! How much longer should I cook it for?
*over = oven

Question by mom1025: How do I adjust baking time if I am using chicken breasts in a recipe instead of bone-in chicken?
The current recipe says to cook the bone-in chicken for 1 1/2 hours, but I know that I wouldn’t have to cook the boneless chicken breasts quite that long. Anyone know the conversion, so I don’t have to use my meat thermometer?

Temperature: RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector)

Measuring resistor changes with the temperature in accordance with a certain reproducible series of calibration data. Changes in resistance are transmitted as changes in voltage to indicators, recorders or controllers directly via copper wires or via transmitters. The type of measuring circuit depends on the instrument to be connected and the required measuring range. The thermometer is heated up by the thermometer current compared to the material to be measured. The heating-up error thus produced increases with the square of the thermometer current and linearly with the resistance of the measuring resistor. Apart from the magnitude of the thermometer current, the error depends on the design of the thermometer and on the heat transfer between the protective tube and the medium. A high measuring power is required for output instruments operating according to the deflection method.

Your horse’s temperature should be between 100 and 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit, or 37.5 and 38.5 degrees centigrade. Here, veterinarian Jo Dudney of the Liphook Equine Hospital, shows us one way to safely take your horses temperature. How to check • Make sure your thermometer is working properly. For mercury thermometers, the level needs to be as close to the bulb as possible, you lower the mercury by shaking the thermometer until the mercury is near the bottom; digital ones need to be turned on and the display checked. • Lubricate the end of the thermometer with Vaseline • Ask someone to hold your horse • Approach your horse from the front, so he is aware that you are there, talking to him and touching him as you head towards his back end • When you reach his tail, stand close to your horse but to the side, and move his tail sideways • Gently push the thermometer into your horses anus, so you feel it lying against the rectal wall. Never let go of the thermometer or it may get sucked into his anus. • Leave it in place for one minute, and if it is digital, until it beeps • Gently remove the thermometer, read and record the temperature Before taking into consideration vital signs like temperature, pulse and respiration, take a moment to stand outside your horses box and just observe his demeanor. Is he alert and interested in his surroundings? Is there any food outside his stable suggesting that he is dropping his feed and needs his teeth checked? Is there any evidence of

How can I tell if my turkey is done?

Question by Melinda: How can I tell if my turkey is done?
I’m cooking a turkey today for my son’s birthday, and I don’t have a meat thermometer. How can I tell if it’s done? I’m so afraid I’ll underdo it or cook it dry. The turkey is really small, about 5 pounds or 2.5 kilos, and I’m roasting it in the oven stuffed only with two small onions.

You can use a meat thermometer as long as it’s clean and it goes up to that temperature (which it should). dip it in and just don’t let it touch the bottom or sides.
