Let’s Get Cookin’!: Santa Fe Chicken

This dish was DELICIOUS!!! Next time I am going to play with the “heat” by using hot or even medium salsa. Possibly black beans as well as the pintos. Sorry, reloaded because the sound was totally off. I redid it and I think it sounds better. Ingredients * 1 large onion, chopped * 1 tablespoon butter * 1-1/4 cups chicken broth * 1 cup salsa * 1 cup uncooked long grain rice * 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder * 4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (4 ounces each) * 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese * Chopped fresh cilantro, optional Directions * In a large skillet, saute onion in butter until tender. Add broth and salsa; bring to a boil. stir in rice and garlic powder. Place chicken over rice; cover and simmer for 10 minutes. * Turn chicken; cook 10-15 minutes longer or until a meat thermometer reaches 170 degrees. Remove from the heat. Sprinkle with cheese; cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Garnish with cilantro if desired. Yield: 4 servings. Question by Francis: How does a pop up thermometer used in cooking turkeys work?
The melting point of an alloy can be altered by changing the composition. Certain organic materials have also been developed for the same purpose. Shown below is a simplified diagram of the pop-up thermometer used in cooking turkeys. Describe how this thermometer works.

The black material at the tip, whatever it is, is holding the plunger down against the compressed spring. When that material softens enough, it releases the plunger, the spring pushes the plunger up, and out it pops.

can you bake a ham with a meat thermometer in it?

Question by dmpatton2: can you bake a ham with a meat thermometer in it?
I am wanting to bake my first ham and I don’t know how many pounds it is ( I got it from a butcher) so I was wondering if I can stick the thermometer in it and bake with it watching the temp…….

Best answer:

Answer by Bella
If the ham is fully cooked you wouldn’t really need one because you just have to warm it. Aks your butcher what he recommends, I bet it’s not even necessary.

It won’t work meats aren’t even considered cooked at the point where your temp would be..take either ibuprofen (advil) or acetaminophen (tylenol) cool your self off if you do have a temp keeping yourself all wrapped up is only making you hotter…cool cloths cool shower bring your temp down
