Question by Kevin: Can you use a meat thermometer in meat that is being deep fried?
Frying a turkey and I’d like to cook it to temp instead of going to time, checking temp, and trial and error until it is cooked (or overcooked), but I’m not sure if it is safe/effective to use a meat thermometer while deep frying.
Help? Tips?

Answer by libbyami
no its not safe, and neither is pulling the turkey in and out of the oil, very bad idea. you go by how long it says on the package to cook the bird, for the oven its usually like 20 minutes per pound at 325
I will see if I can find a very informative link for you…

I don’t have one. I don’t miss it. So I am not sure there are any “daily life” applications as far as I am concerned.

Question by Scottish Heather Flowers: What is the thermometer Ducky uses to take the temperatures of dead people?
So, I’m writing this book and I need to know what the instrument is called that Ducky uses. It’s a thermometer of sorts that he uses to find the temperature of the deceased so he can tell the time of death. I really need to know. So if you could help, that would be great, thanks.
By the way, I’m referring to Ducky, aka Dr. Mallard, from the show NCIS.

Isn’t it just a thermometer?

Question by luis_ugaz: is it dangerous to leave a meat thermometer in the oven?
This is Good Cook brand meat thermometer with a raound glass dial on top. It survived but are there any toxic substances inside of it that could have leaked?
Best answer:
Answer by Rli R
You are OK. If it had a plastic cover over the dial, and it melted – then you’d have a problem.

Question by mommy to #1 TTC #2: Has anyone ever used a infrared thermometer?
I tried taking my daughter’s temp. on her forehead and it was 100.3 but when i checked under her arm it was 103.4. I can’t figure out which is more accurate.
My daughter s 29 months. The only other symptoms she has is a cough and runny nose.
Best answer:
Answer by cerinp
Under the arm is more accurate and you should add one degree to it to get an accurate number, or tell your doc that you took it under her arm and he will add a degree himself. In that case your child would be 104.4. I don’t know how old they are, but thats a little high. If there are no other “dangerous” symptoms s/he will be fine and use the fever to fight off an illness. But I would call your doctor and make sure.
I also use the infared one. The reason I believe the underarm is more accurate for at home use is that there is less chance of user error.
