This should be the first project on YouTube that is based on the new NXT Temperature Sensor (9749). The reading range of this “giant” thermometer was intentionally limited from -15 to 60oC to facilitate the design of this construction. However, the actual reading range of the digital NXT Temperature Sensor is much wider (from -20 to 120oC or from -4 to 248oF). Reading resolution is one decimal point (eg 24.4 degrees). The new Temperature Sensor has a long metal tip (about 64mm). The total sensor tip length, including the plastic “nose”, is about 77mm. The difference with the rest common sensors (such as lignt, US, sound etc.) is that cabling is fixed, meaning that there is no connector socket at the back of the sensor. Cable length is about 51cm. Programmed on the new NXT-G 2.0 (with Data Logging), while the NXT Brick firmware was upgraded to V1.26 (instead of 1.05). web.mac.com Video Rating: 4 / 5
Question by kvuo: What is my infrared thermometer measuring when I point it at the sky?
I have a Fluke 62 IR thermometer, and I’ve asked fluke. They told me the measurements are useless, but If I point it at clear sky, I get -4 to -15C, at clouds, I get more typical cloud temps like 10-15C. Obviously this isn’t just gibberish, It’s measuring something. But, -15 seems a little warm for space. (I imagine the warmth is coming from particulates in the air, etc)

Question by Daddymac: How do those no contact laser thermometers work?
There are thermometers that you just point them in the direction of an object, pull the trigger and a red light or laser(not sure which one) is emitted onto the object. The thermomete then gives a temperature reading of the object. How does this work??
Best answer:
Answer by William W They measure the IR radiation given off by the object. The laser light helps you to aim accurately; it takes no part in the measurement.
Question by TRUE PATRIOT: What is the best baby thermometer that takes temperatures quickly?
I don’t care about price. My 13 month old will scream until he throws up when I try to take his temperature. I need a reliable baby thermometer. We have one that is a binky and it doesn’t work. We have one that goes in the ear, it doesn’t work. We have one the hospital gave us, and it works but it takes forever. I would prefer not to use a rectal thermometer.
I have heard that the ear thermometers were only for older children and adults. I know from experience that they don’t work on babies. They used to say that my kids’ temps were 96 degrees sometimes.

Answer by amberwavessss Get one that can be used under his arm. Hold him in a hug (holding his arm down) while the thermometer is working. Most take about a minute to work.

I am going to bake a whole chicken and I noticed that the meat thermometer that I am going to use has water in the dial. Someone must have put it in the dishwasher the last time I used it. Is it safe to use and will it still register the correct temperature?
